Give Me That 'Old Time Religion'

I usually wear the label 'Pagan' but I have little use for religion myself. It's not that I don't believe the gods and spirits are real, I DO. The thing is for me the gods are 'real' in a different way than for most folks. I feel no compulsion to worship them. In fact, since it is my belief that man created the gods, in my view it is more appropriate that the gods worship and serve humans. Should not the creation worship the creator instead of the other way round?

"Wuh??... How is That "Pagan?"

Pagan to me means seeing the Spirit in all things everywhere. Sure, that Spirit is shaped into every conceivable form but that ONE thing is the substance and core of every tree, river, moving creature, all spirits, gods, goddesses, and entities that exist. I'm the sort of Pagan that validates all faiths, all philosophies and all sides of every issue.

The SOURCE

Some would argue that to believe in all things is to believe in nothing. I disagree. My "validation" of all things and all faiths simply means that I recognize their right to exist by virtue of the fact that they DO exist. I see ONE CONSCIOUSNESS, ONE AWARENESS, ONE BEING as the omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent SOURCE of all that is. Consequently, my only intelligent option is to choose whatever "reality" appeals to me and leave the rest to others.

The Power to Choose

We have the power to choose. This awesome power should never be trivialized. By choice, humans created the gods in his and her image and those powerful choices have shaped the world ever since. By choice, humans created things that their relatives in the animal kingdom never dreamed of; great works of spiritual wisdom, literature, art, poetry, music, science, and commerce. That awesome power to choose combined with the knowledge of the ONE infinite SOURCE of all that is, BEING itself, makes us gods unto ourselves.

Namaste

To honor my own divine power to choose I must also honor yours. THAT is what being Pagan means to me. So 'give me that old time religion' is all about letting people worship in the old ways or the new ways or in NO ways. "An it harm none, do what thou will."

What do you think?
